There aren’t many requirements (I think maybe a rotation in EM, plus some peds and IM exposure it’s very vague). As far as Anesthesiology vs. EM, I would say EM has better "lifestyle" b/c they work less hours (probably an average of 35 vs. an average of 50 or so) and they are never on call (barring mass casualty or you have to cover for a sick co-worker). NO CALL for EM. and you only work like half the month for full time pay.

You should consider the work life balance. The work life balance even as an attending surgeon is not going to be as good as an attending anesthesiologist. The hours are still longer and is demanding. I wouldn't put too much thought into the years required for residency. Even in anesthesia, you'll need intern year plus CA1-3.
