I’ve spent almost an entire in-game year going through the volcano levels in search of the mummified bat fossil. I’ve tried killing lava lurks over and over to no avail (15% drop chance — you’d think I’d get at least one), used monster musk combined with thief rings, and eaten enough lucky meals to kill a normal person.
