You should also explain to the GM that magic items are not some neat little bonus to give out for fun but are mandatory to keep up with your enemies. For a level 5 character you should be starting with 270 gold worth of magic items.

Personally I got my INT to 18. Magus get expert and master 2 levels behind full casters. So I generally only prepare 1 attack spell for spellstrike and leave the rest for crowd control. I can respect that. But I just can't shake the feeling that pumping Int to 18 instead of your attack modifier ability is a bit of a trap in PF2 for the Magus.
