2002 GMC Sierra 3500 w/LB7, service engine light has been on since I bought it 2 months ago. Codes indicate it's the Intake Air Heater Circuit. I took this to mean the heater itself needed changed, so I did. Light stayed on. So . . . I disconnect both pos. on battery for 30-40 minutes and when reconnected, light stayed on.
Heater feed posts to neg. batt. or engine grnd. show 0.9 ohm. with heater feed cables disconnected. With WTS light on, voltage at heater terminal is 10.6V, then goes to 0 after WTS light goes out. It is on when the "Wait To Start" light on your dash is on. Cummins uses it instead of glow plugs. The colder the ambient temperature, the less willing your engine will be to start.

When I unplugged the control wires from the solenoid it didn't like it at all and threw 2 or 3 codes. After tech said he had seen another 1 that happened under 100k we did ask FCA and was told it was out of warranty and they would do nothing.
