Jun 23, 2017. #1. I noticed some powders don't seem to work well in some rifles. My .308 would not group well with IMR4166 no matter what I tried. I got the CFE223 powder to make defensive rounds using Lehigh 55g Controlled Chaos bullets. They are .900" long so limits the powder charge, especially in standard magazine length rounds.
I've been researching reloading data and wondering the same thing so emailed Hogdon about using CFE223 in 6.5 Grendel. Response stated they didn't have any data and suggested using H335, Hodgdon H322, IMR 4198, or IMR 8208 XBR.Pretty young in the reloading game, but I’ve used CFE 223 with a 62 gr FMJ, ranging from 24.5 - 26.9 gr, getting 2586-2934 fps respectively, out of an 18” criterion barrel in an AR15. ... First, just a mention on your ss109... Check your range you want to shoot em at, a lot of ranges ban penetrator or steel jacketed bullets. And it will damage steel targets. That being said, if you cannot find loading data on 62gn bullets, I would start with data for something close, like for 65gn bullets. jmho.

I am making up some loads for an antelope hunt in 6 weeks. I want to use hornady 123gr sst, hornady gave me a couple loads they prefer, which was CFE 223 and Benchmark and are as follows: The load data for Benchmark will start at 2100 fps to a max. load of 27.1 grains @ 2450 fps with a C.O.L. of 2.245 .
