I've still not been able to find a pillar. You can also go to the space station and/or anomaly. Check the mission people and nexus missions for a mission that rewards a walker brain. Complete the mission and get an easy brain. Once you have a satisfactory answer to your question please reset the flair to "answered".

I know defeating like 5 waves of sentinels they'll drop a boundary map to find a pillar. Alternative go to the NMS coordinate exchange and search for a pillar if you have a portal and glyphs handy. More specifically, defeating 5 waves just gives you a waypoint to a sentinel nest without them dropping anything.

Not sure if it'll work for you, but I was able to get past this bug when I had your problem. After killing the walker and it didn't finish the 6th wave, I wandered far enough away from the pillar until it gave me a message in the corner to return. I then started fighting sentinels until I made it to 5 stars wanted level and killed the walker.
