Over many, many rounds that "cam up" action causes fatigue and eventually the firing pin will break. That is, when I say many, I mean lotsa' many. If you take the firing pin out, the 39A will not work properly. The little leg on the pin, works with the lever, to move the bolt, back and forth. The bolt will move, but not far enough.Both my model 99's, one from circa 1920 and the other from the early 1960's, will decock by pulling the trigger back just as the lever closes. When closing the action, you'll feel noticiable increased resistance the last inch or so, that's when to pull the trigger so the sear releases as the action closes the bolt.Item as described and perfect fit. It seems to work OK except there is no firing pin in it. The serial number under the lever action is "F 1134?", so I think originally made in 1949. Just do a search of parts by Marlin, then 39A and you should find the parts you need. Check the Marlin Owners website for great stickys on how to take down the bolt.
