Lost sectors should usually give the specific (new) armour pieces first, based on what type is on offer that day (leg, chest head etc) and after they drop random exotic armour based on what you don't have already. If you already have all the exotic armour in the world loot pool then you just get random rerolls of them.Methinks it should be something like a 25% legend base drop rate, and after 4 completions with no rewards you will get one, guaranteed to be one you don't already have if applicable. Completing a legend lost sector without dying should increase your chances to 33%, but the safeguard remains the same.Because the drop rates are the same for each lost sector. Some lost sectors can be done in under a minute, and bungie probably thinks 1 exotic / minute is too much. The drop rates are fine for the most part. The main thing they need to change is to increase the droprate for slower lost sectors because there is currently no reason to do those ...My experience running legend Lost Sectors lately. Few days ago Chamber of Starlight was the daily lost sector and it dropped head exotics. I ran through it for 240 times, spending like 1:05-1:20 per run and a bit less then a minute to load in and out, so like 2 minutes per run including loading time. In total - 8 hours of farming.

The drop rate doesnt seem to be affected by the number of deaths in the attempt. That said being careful usually gets you through easier and with more insurance than assuming you'll win and playing recklessly. The Lost Sector was designated to drop Helmets. We just got lucky like you. You can run them in a fireteam but exotics only drop on solo clears. You can get exotics, but they will not be that days slot specific nor does it have bad luck protection.
