3. Nov 15, 2011. #1. Hello All... I'm wanting to disable the auto oiler on my 2003 40 hp mercury because I've had to replace the oil sensor in the oil tank twice, and now the oil tank has a crack. I rather not buy a new oil tank, my funds are low right now, plus I'm tired of messing with it, I'd just as soon mix the gas and oil and be done with it.Trace the wires from the back of the VRO to its rubber plug (electrical plug) and disconnect it. 2 - Trace the two wires from the oil tank to the engine, disconnect those two wires, then remove them and the oil tank. 3 - Mix the 50/1 oil in the proper amount with whatever quantity fuel you have. Disconnect the fuel line at the engine.A simple fuel pump rebuild would have solved the problem described. About $10 and you'd be off and running.
