Apart from its impressive waterfall and hidden cave, Brawlers bay has a strategic position, close to both The Snow Biome and the Volcano. This means easy access to multiple and different resources, including Organic Polymer.
There's tons of good base spots. You do have to clear the trees and bushes to really recognize anything though. The foliage makes it a lot harder to just eyeball a spot. If you want to be closer to resources, I would push up the west or east coast rather than base up in the south. 29.
If you want a flat land for large base, Boskar Beach or Boskar Meadow. Close enough to most important locations, some modest metal and obsidian nodes at stone's throw.
