I decided to use a little trumpet slide grease on the washer to be able to just insert it into the slide and have the washer stay in place while I worked with the spring and guide. Right now I'm using a 17.5lb progressive recoil spring in my carry pistol and really liking it. A 1911 (and a Glock) can go down to about 14lbs without damage, assuming the .45acp. About 16lbs with the .40, and about 12lbs with the 9mm. Just start low and work up, or up and work back. Just some thoughts from a 1911 guy. Regards, Josh
