The Oral Reading Fluency-Words Correct (ORF) goals and cutpoints for risk for Grade 4 through Grade 6 are based on normative data from DIBELS Data System percentile ranks (Cummings et. al., 2011). Benchmark goals and cut points for risk for the DIBELS Composite Score are based on the same logic and procedures as the benchmark goals for the individual DIBELS measures. However, because the DIBELS Composite Score provides the best overall estimate of a student’s skills, the DIBELS Composite Score should generally be interpreted first.The new composite score used in DIBELS 8th Edition is the most robust predictor of risk that DIBELS has ever offered. It is superior to any one subtest in its reliability and in the accuracy of its predictors. As a result, we advise that schools use the composite score in determining overall risk in reading.The Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills (DIBELS) help to identify whether a child will struggle with reading and to identify the child's current reading level. The program was developed at the University of Oregon and is used to help teachers identify struggling readers to provide early intervention by using the assessment results.DIBELS 8TH EDITION READING (Grades K-3) Students in Grades K-3 are globally assessed three times a year, using DIBELS 8th Edition Reading Assessments. The assessments give us a snapshot of students’ reading abilities in the areas relevant to grade level expectations. Below, you will find information about each measure.

DIBELS 8th Edition Subtests and Skills by Grade Level This chart outlines the subtests and skills that are used to screen the reading abilities of students in kindergarten through second grade. The screening duration is one minute for all subtests, except for the Maze. The Maze is three minutes in duration.

Proper Use. Assessment materials should not be used for student practice or coaching. Practice and coaching on the materials will invalidate the results. DIBELS should never be used to grade students. They are intended to be used to identify students who need additional instructional support.
