Your concern about crowds ( parking, lodging issues) in GNP is correct. The logistic (in addition to less driving) of visiting NCNP would likely be easier. They are two very similar parks - mountains, lakes, meadows, and glaciers. You will see more wildlife in GNP. You really can't lose with either.

The Road to Many Glacier. I want to pass along a little warning I wish I knew when I was planning our trip. The road to Many Glacier is in terrible condition. I've driven forest roads in Arkansas that are in better shape. We slowly weaved our way through the rough spots at 20 mph for seven miles until we got to the entrance station.

Its a neat thing to do. Views are stunning and vast. Some hikers take the gondola up and walk the trail back down. The ride faces almost due South and in the Summer the sun is high overhead. The town of Cut Bank is a pretty far drive from Glacier - not an ideal base. Yes, I would probably spend a night on the west side if you can find something close to the entrance to reduce your drive time. If you only have 4 days, I’d stick to Glacier and not visit Flathead Lake on this trip.
